The Greene County Rams split softball and baseball games again Tuesday in non-conference games against the Prairie Valley Warriors, with the softball team picking win number 12 in a 14-0 shut out and the baseball team losing 10-7.
Pitcher Marissa Promes had a day of rest as sophomore McKenzie Dennhardt got her first varsity win. She had three strikeouts and no walks in the two-hit game. The Warriors have not had difficulty batting against other pitchers and have a 9-7 record on the season.
The Ram bats were hot, with the tally including two home runs. Junior Emily Christensen had a two-run homer and two doubles, netting four RBI. Junior Emma Saddoris had a solo home run and two singles. Junior Kayla Mobley had a double that scored two runs, junior Hannah Onken hit a single that brought in two runs, and junior Tressa Rasmussen had a double and one RBI. Sophomore Sydney Koch had a single and scored an RBI and sophomore pinch hitter Katelyn Hagen doubled and scored an RBI.
The Rams are 12-4 on the season and 9-1 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. They are tied for first place in the HOIAC with PCM.
The baseball team had another disappointing loss, losing 10-7 after leading 5-0 early in the game against the newly named Southeast Valley Jaguars. (Prairie Valley and Southeast Webster-Grand are reorganizing to form the Southeast Valley CSD. The students selected a new mascot and new school colors.) That was the score after the Rams batted in the third inning, but by the end of the fourth inning, they were down 6-5. The Rams tied the game with a run in the fifth inning, but Prairie Valley scored four runs in the sixth inning to make the score 10-6. The Rams scored again in the seventh inning for the final score.
Sophomore Tyler Beger started as pitcher. Senior Zach Fouch relieved Beger, and junior JC Weitl went in for Fouch. Five of Prairie Valley’s runs were unearned.
Junior Jordan Challen had a double while Beger, sophomore Daric Whipple and junior Dylan McConnell each had a single and one RBI. Junior Jordan Hostetler had a base hit and junior Riah Nelsen had an RBI.
The Rams are at 3-10 on the season.
